The role of the Adult Literacy Organiser will be to assist in the planning, development and management of the adult literacy service within LOETB. The successful candidate will support the development, communication and management of LOETB’s Adult Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy Strategy in consultation with the Further Education and Training Manager, FET Director and as a member of the Further Education and Training Management Team to ensure a coordinated and integrated provision of services.

Key Duties:
- Plan, develop and co-manage the Adult Literacy Service for Laois and Offaly in line with agreed targets and in consultation with the Inclusion Manager and Director of FET.
- Manage the Learning Hub, Adult Literacy Centre based in Portlaoise.
- Recruit, assess and match students to the appropriate service and level of literacy provision.
- Ensure the provision of initial and ongoing CPD and in-service training for both paid staff and volunteers.
- In line with LOETB’s Further Education and Training Strategy, the Adult Literacy Organiser will assist in the coordination of integration of Literacy across the LOETB Further Education and Training scheme.
- Liaise with the relevant voluntary and statutory bodies, including the literacy referral networks, LOETB FET Centre Managers and other relevant groups and organisations to develop partnerships and links between the service and other providers.
- Integrate literacy provision with other relevant services and programmes across the Further Education and Training provision and build on the further development of fully integrated FET Centres in conjunction with LOETB FET Centre and Service Managers.
- The successful candidate will play a key role, working in conjunction with the Inclusion Team, to develop accessible entry routes for those who are educationally disadvantaged and then with the wider FET Centre and Service Management Team to establish tangible pathways and seamless progression for learners where appropriate.
- Facilitate Adult Literacy programmes and initiatives at outreach centres in the community in both Laois and Offaly.
- Promote the Adult Literacy Service through networking, raising awareness and publicity.
- Lead the management of resources, e.g. financial, premises, materials, personnel etc. as appropriate, relevant to the needs of the service.
- Liaise closely with the LOETB QA Department on issues relating to quality assurance, accreditation and certification where relevant, embedding inclusive UD practices where possible.
- Input and maintain relevant and accurate data on the Programme Learner Support System (PLSS) and the Funding Allocation Request and Reporting System (FARR) and generate reports as required by LOETB, SOLAS, DES etc.
- Act in a representative capacity, both internally and externally, on matters relating to Adult Literacy in Laois and Offaly.
- Any other duties assigned by the Chief Executive / Director of FET / FET SMT.
